Obyvatelia viacerých častí na juhu krajiny pozorujú do červena zafarbenú oblohu. Spôsobené je to rozptylom svetla na čiastočkách prachu. Prah zo Sahary prinesený hurikánom Ophelia prekryl Slnko, vďaka čomu sa javí, že má červenú farbu.
Červené Slnko sa nedá pozorovať úplne všade, najviac zasiahnuté oblastí sú na juhozápade krajiny. Pozorované však bolo aj viac na severe krajiny a to z miest ako Manchester či Liverpool.

Ophelia ovplyvnila bežný život v Spojenom Kráľovstve. Niektoré školy ostali zatvorené a obyvatelia boli vyzvaní, aby nevychádzali zo svojich domovov.
